Like me, you probably watched as history was made today.  There will always be those who will stand idly by and say, “Oh, it’s not possible.”  For some, that is all it takes to kill their dreams.  For others, they’re not put off by the fact something has never been done before.  Like the dreams of Barack Obama.  He was not put off by the fact that there has never been a black man as president.  People like him see what’s possible, not what is and what has been.  They are undaunted by the steepness or danger of the path.  They go on silently, relentlessly preparing themselves as others fritter away their time.  Then the fritterers are blindsided by the visionary reaching his or her dreams and they wonder, “How did that happen?”

The moral to this story is that no matter who you are, no matter what your circumstance, no matter what your race, creed, color, religion, economic status, if you can believe it you can achieve it.  To admit that you haven’t accomplished anything worthwhile in your life is to admit that you’ve been too lazy, too distracted, too busy, too downright unwilling to pay the price.  But please, if that’s you (and I sincerely hope it isn’t,) please refrain from projecting your failures on those around you.  Please refrain from dragging down those who would do great things so you don’t have to be alone in your obscurity.  Please refrain from nay-saying the possibilities of those, who in the vigor of youth, may not have firmed up their resolve.

For those of you who are the dreamers, let this be a beacon of hope.  Whether Barack Obama is “your” president or not is immaterial.  He the “the” president and we have a responsibility as Americans to support and sustain him.  We all must and shall support him vigorously in those things he does that are right and good.  And we have a responsibility to oppose him equally as vigorously in those things that aren’t.  Who’s to say what’s right and good and what’s not?  You are  –  based on your values and morals.  I hope you’ll take this responsibility as seriously as any other important thing in your life.  The future of our country may depend on his success.  I hope you’ll support him where you morally can.
